Diatonic Structure

- Use notes from chords to create the basis of your melody
- Use chords in a key to form the basis of your chord progression
- Use off time signatures at syncopation in your melodic rhythm to create unease/uncertainty
- Use chords in a key, notes that ailgn with your chords and a rhythm that lands on the beats to create safe/certain feel
- Even lyric phrases for a certain feel. Leave phrases short to create uncertainty
- Use rhyme for certainty. Don't rhyme for uncertainty
- Use major chords for a happy, minor for sad
- Use ascends melody for happy, descending for sad (same for phrases)

Just kidding, practice is going pretty good!

We have all the songs down PAT ha

Just need to practice them a whole lot more

Sultans of Swing is going pretty good, I've actually got the whole thing of how to  play it

Our prescribed songs are going really well too

Aeroplane is really fun to play and we really get into it, the dynamics in that song are really working together

We've found that by jamming a few times, trying new and different songs only one or two of us know so we all have to work harder to blend, changing over what instruments we play in order to blend better, and by changing how we play the songs in our set list, I think we, or at least I'm, finding that we're getting the songs together better

We're learning to blend together and get to know how one another plays, and because of this, the songs we're playing are improving very well.

We have our bass player!! Declan Taylor, he plays wicked bass and he fits in perfectly with mine and Pat's weird style!
We've jammed with him once, and he's pretty cool, so I think we have our new bass player!

Firstly: here are the first few journal entries I did in my book (before I decided to use this monstrosity again)

So we've come up with a rough list. Here it is so far:

Here are some ideas, we need eight. I'm nervous.

In the last three weeks, we have practiced twice with our bass player. And now he tells us that he can't practice because he has work till 5:30.
Fair enough, he has stuff on. But he could of told us earlier! I'm freaking out man, what song do we play at the end of the term and I  have no idea what I'm doing at the moment.


Now that that's over, here's what we have!! We know the songs, I am listening to them religiously. We know what songs we're playing. We just need to learn them. It's hard, me not having a drum kit, the band not having a bass player, and Pat having too much other stuff to practice on this sort of stuff, but we'll get there I guess.
I think the songs we'd probably do at the end of the year, looking at the list now, are probably:

Aeroplane
Hysteria
Love Shack
Foxey Lady into Purple Haze
Sultans of Swing

That gives us a wide variety of different styles, as well as many different things we're each playing. I wanna do Sultans of Swing because Pat wanted to do it last year, but we couldn't, because it didn't fit in with my style. But this year, we have to do it.
Love Shack is completely and utterly different from everything else, like, totally
And we wanted to do both those Jimi Hendrix songs, and because they sound similar, we think we'll totally blow the judges minds if we go from one into the other without any hiccups.
The two prescribed songs are also completely different, we have heavily synth rock with reggae. I  think we'll be alright :)

Hey again, it's me, back for more year 12 music oh god what am I doing this is a terrible mistake what am I doi

Anyway! Don't mind that, just a bit of nerves that will last the entire year. Here are our songs for the year so far:

I feel like I was stressed about this last year, but I knew what I was doing because there was always the work from the year before and it was 'just year 11!' so I was relaxed a bit more.
But now I am dead. Like, duuuuude, I have no idea man! Theory! Exercises! Assignments! All that jazz, literally...
I will hopefully post more of these..

On a side note, we haven't practiced much and we're getting rid of our bass player. It's a tough time to start with, but at least I  have a drum teacher this year!
